Modern Feminist Grand Theory
Chapter ObjectivesAfter reading Chapter 8, students should be able to:
distinguish feminist theories from other theories discussed in this textbook; the key here is to emphasize the book's definition of feminist theory and contrast it to the book's definition of other kinds of theory; |
 | | | distinguish between different variants of feminist theory and understand how they relate to one another; |
 | | | discuss how each variant of feminist theory deals with the sources of gender difference, inequality, or oppression; |
 | | | define, in their own words, each of the major concepts discussed in the chapter (e.g., gender, patriarchy, domination, relations of ruling, and othering); |
 | | | discuss how each variant of feminist theory would view or employ each concept, in addition to defining the major concepts covered in the chapter; |
 | | | discuss each variant's view of social change; and |
 | | | critically engage each variant of feminist theory. [Students should examine each variant of feminist theory from their own experiences and perspectives as well as from the points of view of other theories discussed in the book.] |
