Chapter Six discusses the different configurations of spaces in which a theatrical event occurs.

After reading this chapter you should:
1.
Understand that in order for a theatrical event to occur, there must be a place where an audience and performer come together. The relationship between the audience and the performers is what defines the form of the space.
2.
Understand that through history only one kind of theater space typically prevails during a particular era. In the modern era, all of the theater configurations co-exist.
3.
Be aware of the historical origin of each stage type described in the chapter.
4.
Be familiar with the connections between modern spaces for popular entertainment and theatrical environments.
